“HOT” Attraction
Over
25 competing chuckwagons from across the southwest will gather in
tradition to compete in the Western Heritage Classic’s Chuckwagon
Cookoff. The Cookoff will begin promptly Saturday, May 12 at 8:30 a.m. In this event,
every effort is made to preserve the past traditions of the chuckwagon and
its unique style of cooking. Everything
from equipment, food, and campsites are presented as authentic as possible
to preserve and display the integrity of the days of the cattle drives.
Each wagon is issued a supply of food for the competition; however, the
cook determines the best possible combinations in order to prepare the
best possible menu. Judging criteria
includes the authenticity of the wagon and the taste of the prepared food.
Judges will be served food from the wagons to make their
determinations of winning divisions and honors at noon on Saturday. Food
division categories include meat, bean, potato, bread, and dessert.
Meals prepared by
wagons are available to the public with a purchase of a $10 meal ticket,
meals will be served from12:00 noon to 1:15 p.m.
The Cookoff awards, including the two highest honors – overall
wagon and food and wagon authenticity – will be awarded to the wagons on
Saturday at 3:00 p.m. |
