WHC Chuckwagon Cookoff

“HOT” Attraction

Over 25 competing chuckwagons from across the southwest will gather in tradition to compete in the Western Heritage Classic’s Chuckwagon Cookoff.  The Cookoff will begin promptly Saturday, May 12 at 8:30 a.m.

In this event, every effort is made to preserve the past traditions of the chuckwagon and its unique style of cooking.  Everything from equipment, food, and campsites are presented as authentic as possible to preserve and display the integrity of the days of the cattle drives. Each wagon is issued a supply of food for the competition; however, the cook determines the best possible combinations in order to prepare the best possible menu.

Judging criteria includes the authenticity of the wagon and the taste of the prepared food.  Judges will be served food from the wagons to make their determinations of winning divisions and honors at noon on Saturday. Food division categories include meat, bean, potato, bread, and dessert.

Meals prepared by wagons are available to the public with a purchase of a $10 meal ticket, meals will be served from12:00 noon to 1:15 p.m.  The Cookoff awards, including the two highest honors – overall wagon and food and wagon authenticity – will be awarded to the wagons on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
