Winners of the 2010 Western Heritage Classic
Swenson Land & Cattle Co, of Stamford, Texas, was awarded the Champion of the 26th annual Western Heritage Classic’s Ranch Rodeo on Saturday, May 8, 2010.
Haythorn Land & Cattle Co. of Arthur, Nebraska placed second, Guitar Ranches of Abilene came in third, and Pitchfork Land & Cattle of Guthrie, was awarded fourth place.
Ten participating ranches competed in the WHC Ranch Rodeo.
The annual WHC Remuda Award was presented to the Pitchfork Land & Cattle Co. of Guthrie. The WHC Top Hand was Carroll Jack Lewis of the Swenson Ranch. The 2010 All-Around Horse was awarded to, “Tin Cup”, ridden by the Pitchfork’s Clay Timmons.Event winners for the Ranch Rodeo were Guitar Ranches for Team Penning; Team Doctoring was won by Haythorn Land & Cattle Co.; Swenson Land & Cattle Co. for Team Branding and Wild Cow Milking; Matthews/Nail Ranches of Albany won the Bronc Riding on Friday night, and Stuart Ranch of Waurika, OK won on Saturday night.
Numerous events throughout the weekend included the National Finals for the Ranch Horse Association of America (RHAA) Working Ranch Horse Competition. The Top Cowboy Class winner was Zinn Lindsey ridding “Oh Cay Jose,” and the Top Ranch Hand Class winner was Riley Smith riding “Seven S Zans.” Tripp Townsend was awarded the Top Junior Class winner as well as the Top Senior Class winner riding “Hoorey” for both classes.
The WHC hosted the Invitational Ranch Horse Sale. Sixty-one registered Quarter Horses consigned by 16 ranches brought an average price of $3,719. “CC Beefeater Gin,” a 2003 buckskin gelding consigned by Throckmorton’s Clark Cattle Co. topped the sale with a $15,000 bid.
The Chuckwagon Cookoff’s best overall winner was awarded to Mesquite Flatts, and the best wagon for authenticity and camp was awarded to “Breakaway” “Breakaway” also won in the meat division; “Mesquite Flatts” placed first in the beans category; best bread went to “Scorpion Cattle Co.;” “Mesquite Flatts also won the potatoes category and was awarded the number one for dessert.
Thursday night’s parade also sent home winners. Tim Eyssen won in the Antique Vehicle Division and Don Vickery took first again in the Antique Tractors Division. In the Wagon divisions, the Rubber Tire Wagon winner was Nelson Farm and Ranch; Glenda Pritchard won the Buggy Division, Cowboy Heritage Church took first for the Chuckwagon Division, and Deann Bailey won first for the Other Wagon Division. The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Posse was awarded first for the Over-30-Miles-Riding Club Division and Cowgirls on a Mission won first for the Local-Riding Club Division.
