CHAMPION TITLE

 

              ABILENE, TEXAS – Spade Ranches of Lubbock, Texas, was awarded the 2007 Champion of the 23rd annual Western Heritage Classic’s (WHC) Ranch Rodeo Saturday night (May 12, 2007).  Pitchfork Land and Cattle Co. of Guthrie placed second, Matthews/Nail Ranches of Albany came in third, and Haythorn Land & Cattle Co. of Arthur, Nebraska was awarded fourth place. Ten participating ranches competed in the WHC Ranch Rodeo.

              The annual WHC Remuda Award was awarded to the 6666 Ranch of Guthrie.  The WHC Top Hand was Ray Bradley of the Tongue River Ranch in Dumont, Texas.  “Ocean,” ridden by Craig Haythorn, was named the 2007 All-Around Horse.

              Event winners for the Ranch Rodeo were Moorhouse Ranch of Benjamin, Texas for Team Penning; Spade Ranches for Team Doctoring; Team Branding was won by Pitchfork Land & Cattle; Spade Ranches won Wild Cow Milking; and Haythorn Land and Cattle Co. won the Bronc Riding.

              Other events throughout the three-day weekend included the National Finals for the Ranch Horse Association of America (RHAA) Working Ranch Horse Competition.  Both the Top Cowboy Class and Top Ranch Hand Class Horse was “Natural Tivio” ridden by Heath Owenby.  Tripp Townsend rode both “Sand Hills Dun It” winning the Top Junior Horse, and “Alotofbull” winning the Top Open Horse.

              The WHC hosted the Invitational Ranch Horse Sale.  Seventy registered Quarter Horses consigned by 16 ranches brought an average price of $3,455.  “TS Dun Happened,” a 1998 dun gelding consigned by Espuela Cattle Company of Spur, Texas, topped the sale with a $14,000 bid.

              The Rhinestone Cowgirls wagon took home Chuckwagon Cookoff honors for best overall, and best wagon for authenticity and camp was awarded to “Roberson.”

              Thursday’s evening parade also sent home winners.  Wayne and Wanda Kendrick won in the Antique Vehicle division and Don Vickery took first in the Antique Tractors division.  In the Wagon divisions, the rubber tire wagon winner was David Beard, Otis Cline won the buggy division, the West Texas Rehab Center took first for the chuckwagon division, and Larry Mitchell won first for the other wagon division.  The Tarrant County Sheriffs Posse were honored with first for the over-30-miles-riding club division and Hendrick Equine Rehab won first for the local-riding club division.  Youth float winner was BSA Pack 215 and for open floats the Cowboy Heritage Float was named first.
